About this trip

The dive site

The shore dive sites are found within the Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park and provide some of the best shore diving in NSW. These dives are suitable for all levels of divers and have an abundance of coral and marine life. The boat dives will be at Broughton Island, located about 14km off Port Stephens, which is also part of the Great Lakes Marine Park. Broughton Island has a number of dive sites with gutters, reef, bommies and much more!

Marine life

As Broughton Island falls within a Marine Park, there is an abundance of healthy reef and marine life. There is a large aggregation of grey nurse sharks, which are there all year round, and seasonal visits from beautiful humpback whales from June to November. Both the shore dives and the island are also bursting with macro life, including seahorses and nudibranchs among other things.

What you will see

If you are a nudibranch enthusiast, the shore dives will leave you very satisfied, as there is a huge diversity of species in the area. You will also see a number of seahorses, cuttlefish and octopus. Out by the island you’ll spot grey nurse sharks, large schools of fish, weedy sea dragons and much more!
And once you’re finished your dives, head up to Tomaree Headland to absorb the incredible views of Port Stephans and the north coast.
