Minke Whales and Ribbon Reefs, Cairns

This Minke Whale trip with Mike Ball Dive Expeditions is a unique oppurtinuty to swim with these beautiful creatures. The expedition runs from Cairns to Lizard Island, going all the way along the outer Great Barrier Reef. You will spend time exploring the prestine reefs of Cod Hole, Ribbon Reef and explore the wonders of sites like Gotham City, Steves Bommie & Pixies Pinnacle. The trip includes up to 12 dives and multiple interations along the way with a Minke Whales.

There are few opportunities in a lifetime where you can experience the thrill of sharing the water with a creature as magnificent as a whale. It’s only during the months of June and July, that divers may have the opportunity to interact with Minke Whales in the warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef. On this dive trip you will not only see the minke whales, but a huge variety of marine life! From disco clams (named after the pulsing light in their mantle) to diver-sized potato cod, this trip has a little bit of everything. The diverse marine environment on the outer Great Barrier Reef is a divers dream, with interesting corals and beautiful creatures at ever turn.
The trip includes a low level scenic flight cruising 300m over the reef from Lizard Island to Cairns giving you an amazing oppurtunity to experience the reef from above and below!
